DeSerres opened their Newton location over 2 years ago. We spoke with current Store Manager, David Saito and asked why Newton was the choice for a new location, “We decided to open a brand new store in Newton as there seemed to be a gap in the support for the arts and creativity from an art materials supplier in this area and Surrey in general.” Within their short time here in Newton, DeSerres has already created a large presence within the community. In particular, DeSerres was involved in the Newton Community Festival as well as Fusion Festival, and has been a great support to the Newton BIA. DeSerres is also involved with local art groups and schools in Newton including the Surrey Arts Council and Surrey Art Gallery.

When asked about how he sees the success of DeSerres in Newton, David responds, “As we’ve grown from the ground up here in Newton over the last two years, I hope we’ve helped spark a bit more creativity and culture that has been sitting here under the surface all this time.”

Art, graphic and craft supplies along with an exceptional picture framing department and a kid’s toys and games section with an emphasis on creativity are the specialties of DeSerres. They look to provide products to everyone from artists, kids, adults, and students. But what makes DeSerres special, David answers, “I think being a Canadian company of the size we are, we can present a good range of really good valued products in a great environment to facilitate our customer’s creative endeavours. We can also introduce some truly unique products that are not seen everywhere.” You can see some of these unique products at their Creative Lab taking place during Tourism Surrey’s Art in the City: Studio Tour September 26 & 27! DeSerres also offers a free Creative Club Loyalty Program for everyone, student discounts, as well as, institutional and corporate pricing.

When asked about the company’s future plans in Newton, David responds that they “plan to stay in the area long term and continue to fill the need for a creative arts supplier in Surrey and an arts supporter in Newton and beyond.” David believes the potential of Newton is exciting, and that its identity has yet to be set.
